Customer Reviews: Don't leave home without it!   November 6, 2009 Jason Webster (CA United States) My girlfriend and I took this book with us on our trip to the Yucatan and it proved to be an excellent resource! The reviews and suggestions were spot on and up to date. Unlike many guide books this one is updated annually which Is very important in a country like Mexico where things change quickly. I also appreciated the personal input and data for sites, activities, restaurants, lodging - it was great having personalized traveling advice. I also like the way the book is laid out making it easy to navigate. This guide was our constant companion and advisor and proved an invaluable resource. The trip would not have been the success it was without this book! And for a great beach read I highly recommend "A TOURIST IN THE YUCATAN" great thriller! No matter what your budget, this little gem has advice for you. It also offers valuable advice on its own website along with blogs and traveler's experiences. Fodor's Cancun is updated yearly to keep us travelers informed with the latest details to plan that perfect vacation. I would also highly recommend Frommer's Cancun & the Yucatan Day by Day (Frommer's Day by Day - Pocket) as a pocket guide for your day-to-day planning. A guide for tourist traps   January 10, 2010 ioanau 3 out of 5 found this review helpful If you plan on spending $300/day/person this guide might be for you. This guide will send you directly into all the tourist traps possible, no hints or suggestions for the off-beaten path (there is a lot we discovered by chance and could have been easily put in the guide). Most of the information is given either for high-end resorts or for the false authentic that costs an arm and a leg. The last page explains it all: the authors seem to do the reviews as side-jobs... Being a 2010 edition, I thought that it would be the most accurate information about the area and the attractions. I was deeply disappointed with the book. The maps are too vague and show a small area. We visited some historic sites: Chichen Itza, Tulum and Coba. The information written about these sites are poor. Little amount of data, little historical reference, little detailed description about the pyramids and the structures. Poor maps of the sites. The entrance fees listed are incorrect. We drove to these sites and realized that there are no or little directions given about how to get there. If you are interested in the list of hotels and restaurants, you may find this book useful, but if you are a true traveller, you may want to find something better. I will never buy anything other than Lonely Planet.
