Product Description Today’s baby boomers are not waiting for retirement to enjoy the good life. And even if they do retire, for most people under 60, leaving their jobs means something very different than sitting back and doing nothing. After a 40-year marketing career with major global brands and his own brand consultancy, author Robert Nelson moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and never looked back. Now, in Boomers in Paradise: Living in Puerto Vallarta, he shows boomers the pleasures and the perils of this self-described “Jewel of the Mexican Riviera.” Unlike other books on Mexico, 14 different boomers tell their personal stories of how they came to live in Puerto Vallarta, and what their daily lives are like. As diverse in scope as it is informative in nature, through these unique interviews, Nelson shares these very personal accounts of living in Puerto Vallarta and shows boomers how to get the most out of a brand new life whether they are married, single, retired or want to continue to work.

| Customer Reviews: Invaluable look at Puerto Vallarta from a local's viewpoint November 5, 2008 D. Green (LA Quinta, CA USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Anyone who is thinking about moving to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, or even visiting this lush paradise, will glean more incite into the real Mexico from reading this wonderful book than from any travel guide. The writer, Robert Nelson, draws us into the hearts and souls of the American and Canadian expatriots who live and work in this fascinating city on the Pacific Ocean. The individuals and couples he has introduced us to, make Puerto Vallarta blossom. He also treats us to the story behind the lives of these citizen adventurers, including their personal migration from disparate parts of the world. If you have ever thought of moving to a "city by the sea" Boomers in Pradise is a must read.
14 Real Stories of Boomers May 14, 2009 Nancy M. Mehegan (Montclair, NJ) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
These are real stories. That's what is so great about this book. It has details of real lives of 14 Boomers who decided to live in a warm, sunny place.
A new retirement model can be seen among Boomers living in Puerto Vallarta. Living in Vallarta has meant working for most. Nelson gives "the good" & "the bad" -- which is good -- it's not overly romanticized.
Some boomers says they remain in "PV", as the locals call it, because the people are so "nice and friendly". Nelson covers their struggles, and their zig-zag paths: marriages end, mates pass away. Many were vacationers with "time shares" who decided to stop "sharing their time" in Vallarta and simply move there. There is great beauty: the foothills of Sierra Madres, gorgeous weather (same latitude as Hawaii), culture: art community, ecotours, whale watching and an inexpensive university.
If you want details and encouragement, this is the book for you!
excellent source for understanding PV January 12, 2010 S. Evans (Tucson, AZ USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've been to PV many times and I still learned a lot from this source. Plenty of insight about what it is to like to live in Puerto Vallarta as an expatriate if you are considering moving there, or buying a home there for vacations. Helps to emphasize that this is not just a resort-location in the southern U.S. -- this is another country with other customs, laws and beliefs. If you are planning to consider Mexico as a retirement or vacation location, read it! Or if you want to understand more about the community and country, read it! Both entertaining and helpful.
40 year update on one of the most colorful cities in North America March 11, 2009 Kent E. Lillie 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Been 40 years since I last visited Puerto Vallarta, following my tour as a Marine in Vietnam. It was the perfect antidote then and now, based on this wonderful depiction of life there today.
Mr. Nelson brings his subjects to life as we read about their very colorful lives prior to and follwing their moves to this now, world class city and resort.
You will get a great, first hand and very real depiction of life there today with all of it's opportunities and challanges.
If you have any interest in living or visiting the Mexican coast, this is an essential read!
