I found some great little out-of-the-way places, good information on the major sites, and suggestions for some fine meals! Day trips, ancient sites, astonishing markets, dancing, music and great food...all in this guide. AND...the maps are excellent! (I think a bad map is worse than no map at all). Mexico City is one of the great cities, but is often underappreciated. There are some obstacles to enjoyment, some dangers and annoyances. But, all you need do is read a little in this guide to get up to speed on how the city is...it will help you negotiate the city like a pro-avoiding drama while enjoying the cultural best this great city can offer! We spent 2 weeks exploring Mexico City with this book and the laminated map with street look-up. Saw the usual sights but so much more. Great walking tours. Were able to find things confidently and they were just as interesting as advertised. So many cool places, so much art. Buy along with DK eyewitness travel books   January 17, 2009 N. Jacks (Central Florida) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful Although the Lonely Planet series are packed with information, which is vital to your trip, I like to also buy a guide from DK eyewitness series as well. The reason, Dk guides are packed from cover to cover with extensive photos to go along with the commentary that shows you exactly where you will be visiting. This makes the reading more enjoyable, instead of just reading about a museum or site, it shares the actually experience of being there, from statues to train station. I rated the lonely planet a 4 stars for the information inside it, and the Dk guides would be a 5 and my first choice. Decent Book- but watch out for mistakes!! 3 1/2 Stars   October 21, 2008 A.A.L. (Philadelphia, PA United States) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful We held out until the last minute to purchase the brand new '08 version of this usually trustworthy travel series for our trip to Mex. City, thinking it would have the most updated info. As always the book is easy read, categorized by neighborhoods, and full of good facts. The problems- lack of details and on some of the restaurants/hotels, we wondered if the "researchers" bothered to go! Beware the spa section is labeled with the prices in Mex. Pesos making all 3 spas look like a good idea- well they were actually in US dollars, when the exchange rate is 13.5M:1USD this makes HUGE difference. Please try again lonely planet!?! P.S. For factual updated info. I recommend printing the Mexico City guide from wikitravel before you go. OKAY AS BACK-UP, NEED BETTER MAP   November 17, 2009 LostAngeles (Los Angeles, CA, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful This is not a very comprehensive book despite the fact that it's all about Mexico City (I should have noticed how many pages it was before purchasing). I did not end up using much of the information in the book- for eating out, I used the Good Food in Mexico City which was very reliable and the bars which the Lonely Planet guide listed I looked at tended to be pretty uninteresting. The transportation information for going to the pyramids at Teotihuacan was not very detailed which made for getting confused in the crowded bus station. This seems like something nearly everyone who spends more than a few days will want to do- why wouldn't it be thorough on the topic? It turns out that the neighborhoods which the Lonely Planet guide covers are sometimes quite far away from each other. This makes the map pretty awkward because there are huge blank spots without street names! If you are the type of person that decides to walk between places and explore, you will definitely want to have a more detailed map of the city handy! My B&B had a copy of the Opinionated Guide which at first glance was not as organized.
