4 out of 5 stars Nice back pocket guidebook for a short trip to Mexico City   July 10, 2008

Nice little book for carrying around town. The top ten lists are pretty good for what they are -- top suggestions of what to see/do/buy/eat. If you want lots of history or detail, you'll need a fatter guidebook. Lonely Planet and Let's Go fit my style for a reference guide, but Fodor's or Frommer's may fit yours.

Good maps of the major places in the city, and a Metro map. If you follow this guidebook's advice to never drive yourself, the maps are plenty. You'll need to buy a more detailed map if you want to drive in the city.

2 out of 5 stars Lacks key details   December 3, 2008
Jessica Roberts (Portland, OR)
We bought this book for a 1-week trip to Mexico City. I did not find it very helpful. The graphic design and "top ten" format made it hard to scan, and key information was frequently lacking. As one example, we had to turn to several different sections to find out information about Bosque de Chapultepec, but none of those sections told us that the whole park is closed every Monday. We saved some museums until our last day and then couldn't get in because of this omission. There were many instances like this.

I did like the pull-out pocket map, including a subway map, and at this price you might get it just for the map. But don't get it as your main Mexico City guide unless you like being frustrated.

1 out of 5 stars Not very useful   April 29, 2010

While I have found other DK Eyewitness guides quite good, they were bigger books with in-depth coverage of cities like Vienna, Prague, and Budapest rather than a Top 10 book like this one. While this book could be useful for picking out the main sights you want to see before a trip to Mexico City, it is not really very useful once you are actually there. It is simply way too shallow in its coverage of the sights. You definitely will need another guide book during your trip. I ended up using the Lonely Planet Mexico City book together with the Mexico City chapter of Fodor's Mexico 2010 book. I barely looked at this book during the 4 days I spent in Mexico City. (I gave them each 3 stars.) Since you'll need another book any way, you can use it to pick out the best sights to see and skip this one. It's unfortunate that DK has not provided a complete Mexico City book instead of this Top 10 book.

I should add that Mexico City is a great place to visit. It has great sights and great food. It is a shame that more Americans don't visit it. While it has a reputation of being polluted and dangerous, my wife and I both felt very safe and comfortable during our entire trip.
